Stumptown Montes de Oro Yasal Coffee Review
I have been buying Stumptown coffee more and more lately. It has become a fairly recognized brand, and their coffees are all unique, and curiously delicious.
This Montes de Oro Yasal coffee is no exception to that.
ABOUT
According to Stumptown, they come the very first customer of Monte de Oro over a decade ago - since 2006.
The Gamboa family produces the coffee - a family that knows coffee very well. In fact, their family has been growing and cultivating coffee for more than 100 years, with records showing that they have been in the coffee growing business clear back to the 1800’s.
Tutto Gamboa, the current family patriarch, has been involved in the family business of coffee since the age of 15.
These coffee beans herald from Costa Rica, specifically the central part in the Province of San Jose. This is a lush area, globally known as a region for growing award-winning coffees. It is green, mountainous, and has perfect soils for coffee.
The fact that Stumptown highlights all of these details about who grows the coffee you are drinking, where it came from, and how much it means to the livelihood of their family is incredible. This coffee has a story, as does nearly every single coffee that Stumptown offers.
That little look into the place of origin and the family that grew the coffee, somehow makes drinking this roast all there special. And not in a way that makes me feel like I am necessarily helping that family out by drinking their coffee, but more in a way of increased appreciated for the dedication to craft that a family line has devoted to the production of world-class coffee.
Even if their coffee is not the best coffee I have ever had, it certainly ranks among the most special, with the best understanding of what a family will dedicate in order to make this small coffee blogger appreciate a cup a coffee. It is damn incredible when you stop and think about it.
REVIEW
Traditionally, the coffee that is produced by the Gamboa family has captivating notes. They are typically a refreshingly tart coffee, layered with sweet citrus notes.
This coffee is a blend, but a blend of extraordinary varietals. All of the coffee is processed on their farm.
This particular roast indicates that there are cantaloupe and floral notes - definitely a combination of flavor that I have yet to find in another roast anywhere else.
Drinking this coffee is a treat. Its flavor is to differently complex, that before you can even stop to contemplate what you just drank, you are naturally lifting your mug to take another sip. It is mind-bending in its own regard.
For having fruit and floral notes, I had expected an increased amount of acidity and bitterness to accompany this roast. I was wrong. It is as smooth as satin with such a mild amount of acidic bite, that I would go as far as to classify this as on elf the best after-dinner coffees I have had. Depending circumstances, this could be a delicious dessert coffee.
This is coffee that is nothing short of remarkable - one that I know I will not get to taste whenever I want. It is not sold at every grocery stores around the corner, nor is it available all year long. It is a true coffee delicacy if I have ever had one. And I cannot wait for the next time I get to drink this transformative coffee roast.
